Draft Cards

  • The draft registration cards have two sides, but only the front has information to be indexed.
  • Cards for this project have both English and Spanish labels for the fields.
  • Each image shows either the front or the back of a card.
    • Front of Card: Only the front has information to be indexed.
    • Back of Card: Do not index the back. Mark it as a No Extractable Data Image.

Diacritics and Other Characters

  • If the name of a person or a locality was written with a character not on your keyboard, such as the é in José, please insert the character by clicking on the Enter special international characters icon (which is a square with an "ñ" in it) and selecting the character you want to insert, or:
    1. On the menu bar, click Edit.
    2. Click International Letters.
    3. Click on the letter you want to insert.

Using Highlights

  • Highlights are available for this project.
  • If the highlights do not appear on the image:
    1. On the menu bar, click View.
    2. Click Show Highlights so that a check mark appears.
  • The highlights may not always line up with the image, particularly when the card is not centered within the image. To adjust the highlights to fit the image:
    1. On the menu bar, click View.
    2. Click Adjust Highlights.
    3. Move the cursor over the image, and all highlights will appear.
    4. Adjust the highlights to match the image.
  • Adjusting highlights may be tricky. Click here for more detailed instructions on how to do it. A key to successfully aligning the highlights with the forms is to first adjust the red outline to encompass the area where the fields are located.
  • If the highlights still do not match the form, you may choose to turn them off and use the ruler.
