Skill Level: Advanced

  • This project is recommended for volunteers who are comfortable with the indexing process, system features, and reading old cursive Italian handwriting. It is also helpful if volunteers understand the various documents that relate to births, marriages, and deaths.

Characteristics and Description of This Project

  • The records were written in both Italian and Latin, which will require you to read carefully to find the correct information for each field. Click here for a resource that will help you index Latin records. If you feel uncomfortable indexing a particular batch, simply return it.
  • Many records were handwritten in paragraph style.
  • Records are generally listed chronologically.
  • Batches include two images, usually with more than one record per image.
  • Since the information on records is not always in the same order, you will need to read each record carefully to find the information for the various indexing fields.
