About This Project

  • This project contains Halifax deaths from 1890 to 1908 and deaths from other Nova Scotia counties from 1908 to 1955.
  • Death records to be indexed include the following:
    1. Death Registrations
    2. Death Certificates
    3. Death Registers
    4. Burial Registers
  • The following records, if found in the project, should not be indexed:
    1. Letters
    2. Overlays
    3. Supporting Documents
  • The death records in this project are digital copies of the originals.

How to Help with This Project

  • If you have not already done so, you must register as an indexing volunteer. To register and to download and install the indexing program, click here for the indexing home page. Click Get Started, and follow the instructions on the page.
  • After you register, click the Begin Indexing link on the indexing home page, and sign in to the indexing program with your username and password. Then click the Download Batch button, and select this project name from the list. To see the project name on the list, you may need to select Show all projects at the top of the Download Batch window.

  • Death records to be indexed include the following:
    1. Death Registrations
    2. Death Certificates
    3. Death Registers
    4. Burial Registers
  • Batch sizes will be as follows:
    1. Death Registrations and Certificates—15 images per batch
    2. Death Registers—3 images per batch
    3. Burial Registers—1 image per batch
  • Records were typed or handwritten on preprinted forms.

  • The general public can freely access the completed index and links to the digital images online once the collection is published.
